Hampton Point is a community of 126 homes situated in the quaint hamlet of East Quogue, Long Island, New York. Early historical maps of the area, dated 1916, identify the designation of the present development as the “Hampton Point Estates” as well as a large tract of land owned by “Misses P.A. and F. Hallock.” Originally envisioned in 1950 as a summer retreat for residents of New York City, many of the homes have since been expanded and are now year-round residences.
During the early years of the community, the homeowners came to see the wisdom of forming an Association, and subsequently took the necessary steps to achieve that goal. Under the leadership of Mr. Darragh deLancey, who became the first President of the Board of Directors of the Association, a Certificate of Incorporation was issued by the State of New York in August 1956. Specifically, the purpose for the newly formed legal entity was “to acquire, own, maintain, improve and control certain roads, streets, rights of way, docks, beach and park areas located at Hampton Point, in the village of East Quogue, Township of Southampton, County of Suffolk, State of New York and presently owned by the Hampton Land Co., Inc., a New York Corporation, for the use, benefit, and convenience of its members; to promote frequent meeting together of its members; and to afford such facilities from time to time as may be deemed necessary and advisable for the comfort and convenience of its members.”
The Association has continued to thrive consistently through these many years. Active participation of homeowners is welcomed and strongly encouraged, and several committees are operational throughout the year. These committees focus on specific areas such as welcoming new residents, road maintenance, dock maintenance, beautification of the entrances to the community and beach. In addition, an annual meeting of the membership is held each summer, providing an opportunity for the Board of Directors to provide updates on projects affecting the community as well as for neighbors to “meet and greet” other neighbors.
The original vision of the Hampton Land Company is still very much present today. The Association’s beach, nestled on the shore of Shinnecock Bay, is the crown jewel of our community, providing residents with a respite from the pressures of everyday life. In addition, our four docks are enjoyed by boaters and all who are fortunate enough to live here.
Simply put, Hampton Point is the place to be!
